Kyra Jefferson, former NCAA champion and record-holder, joined Sacramento State’s coaching staff in September 2023 as the sprinters and hurdlers coach. In her first season, Jefferson led her athletes to 10 school top-10 marks, highlighted by Zoe Ewell’s school record in the 60m. A standout at the University of Florida, Jefferson was a 4-time NCAA and 6-time SEC champion, setting the NCAA outdoor 200m record in 2017 (22.02), which stood for 28 years. Her professional career saw her win a silver in the 200m and gold in the 4x100 relay at the 2015 Pan American Games, along with top finishes at international meets in Monaco and Zurich. Jefferson began coaching as a volunteer assistant at Florida before taking on a coaching role at P.K. Yonge Development Research School in Gainesville, Florida. There, she designed training sessions and oversaw physical conditioning, while managing team budgets. Now, she’s committed to developing Sacramento State’s next generation of track stars.
